Well, day 2 is in the books. After getting in touch with Suzanne (one of the mentors at the Affiliate Power Group), I spent the rest of the day getting my thoughts straight and creating a video to present to the group (all five mentors, Ken, Suzanne, Jeffery, Jeff, and Cynthia). This required “action” on my part, something that I have had trouble with in the past. This in itself is a step in the right direction.
I actually created the video twice. The first one was much too long (28 minutes) and I figured the mentors probably wouldn’t sit through the whole thing (I still don’t expect all of them to watch it). So I scaled it back quite a bit (to 8 minutes), which forced me to focus on what was important. Again, another step in the right direction. I then posted the video to my Amazon S3 account (which hasn’t gotten much use at all) and then pm’d them the link. I can’t wait to get the feedback. Hopefully it won’t take very long. Ken, the founder of APG visited my profile in the APG forum which makes me believe he did get my pm. Of course that doesn’t mean he had time to watch my video yet, but I’ll be patient.
I hope my reason for using pm’s is obvious. I don’t want to put all my ideas out in public (even though the forum is supposedly private). I know most people wouldn’t care but there are those (I think of them as snipers) who will jump all over another person’s idea and actually beat them to market. Now, I’m not saying that what I’m doing is anything new or revolutionary because it definitely is not, but at this point I feel better with a little privacy. I’ll reveal my stuff as it’s ready to go live. That makes sense, right?
So, now I’m preparing for day 3. There are some more things I want to do to help me shine in front of my mentors. I don’t want to look like a total slacker, which is how I would appear if they’d witness my past habits of indecision and procrastination. I would like to be a star apprentice. Maybe then they’ll take more interest in me and give me more support. This is another benefit of having a coach or a mentor, accountability. As I said before, I learn this from my virtual mentors Eben Pagan and Napoleon Hill. Like I said in a post on the warrior forum, “If they do nothing more than check my work and give me feedback, it’s worth the cost of admission”. This is something I wish I’d done a long time ago.
For those who may have seen my post on the warrior forum about another coaching program I signed up with, I’m still signed up. However, I’m thinking of cancelling that program for the time being since it hasn’t started yet. It also focuses on adsense which I’m not too thrilled about pursuing. I signed up for the same reason I signed up with APG, so I could have access to a reputable coach at a reasonable price. He (John Schwartz aka Coach Zeus) also teaches affiliate marketing and site flippingĀ in this course, but apparently the primary focus is on adsense. I’ll be checking with John today to confirm what we’ll be covering to be sure. He actually sent an email containing his phone number in case I had any questions. He also told me that I could stay in touch with him after the two week class is over . I think that this is also worth the cost of admission although I don’t plan on abusing his generosity. One can never have too many mentors, can they?
Sorry for the length of this post. My guess is they will get shorter and shorter as I get more and more focused on my project. I also want to experiment with video so I’m investigating how to embed camtasia videos into a wordpress post. I’m using camtasia to process all my videos, screencast or otherwise. I’ve spent a lot of time learning it so I want to make the most of my efforts.
I’ll talk to you soon.
